The Top Five Best Football Snow Games

The cooler weather is finally settling in across North America, and earlier in the week snow had fallen in Denver, Colorado in the football stadium. Seeing this brings back memories of some all-time favorite games played in the snow. See if you remember these games.

1. The 1996 Grey Cup

The 1996 Grey Cup featured the Toronto Argonauts and the Edmonton Eskimos at Ivor Wynn Stadium in Hamilton, ON in front of 38,595 fans. Doug Flutie would win the Grey Cup MVP while Mike Vanderjagt won the Most Valuable Canadian. The Argonauts would go on the beat the Eskimos 43-37 to win the 84th Grey Cup.

2. The Buffalo Bills vs. Indianapolis Colts

This game was the highlight of week 14 of the 2017 NFL season where the Buffalo Bills vs. the Indianapolis Colts played during lake effect snow at New Era Field in Orchard Park on December 10, 2017. The Bills would go on to beat the Colts in overtime 13-7.

3. The Snowplow Game

 On December 12, 1982, the Miami Dolphins and the New England Patriots played in front of 25,761 fans at Schaefer Stadium. Before this game was played, a rainstorm along with cold temperatures froze the AstroTurf before the snowstorm hit. This game is remembered for snowplow operator Mark Henderson clearing a spot for Patriots kicker John Smith, who would go on to kick the only points in the game and the Patriots beat the Dolphins 3-0.

4. The Philadelphia Eagles vs. Detroit Lions

The Blizzard of 2013 hit the Philadelphia and New Jersey area on December 3, 2013, when the Philadelphia Eagles battled the Detroit Lions at Lincoln Financial Field in front of 69,144 fans. This game was a low-scoring game until the second half when LeSean McCoy took over the game and rushed for 217 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Eagles to a 34-20 win.

5. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats vs. Calgary Stampeders

On October 20, 2012, the Calgary Stampeders and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats played a tight game in front of 26,502 fans at McMahon Stadium on a snowy Saturday Night.

The highlights of the game were when Keon Raymond intercepted Henry Burris for a 100-yard return for a touchdown, and Jon Cornish’s two touchdowns which sealed the Stampeders’ win over the Tiger-Cats 34-32 to clinch a playoff spot and second place in the West division.
