The Atlantic City FC opened their 2019 campaign with an exhibition game Saturday, May 4, 2019, against the FC Baltimore Christos at Silver Eagle Stadium in Egg Harbor Township, NJ.
The exhibition game was used to test both teams and raise their form for the upcoming season. Neither team scored in the first half, but there was plenty of action going on.
Both defenses played hard during the first half and were able to hold off attacks by the offenses. FC Baltimore Christos’s offense was aggressive from the start. They took advantage of the miss communication by Atlantic City FC players to push past the midfielders to give themselves scoring chances but to no prevail.
The Atlantic City FC defenders were put to the test trying to fend off the forwards who were pushing up the sidelines trying to create an opening in the center of the field from which they could take a clear shot at the net.
However, the Atlantic City FC defenders were able to maintain their line, so no chances were given up to score. Left Back Michael Jordan, stopped significant attacks by the offense and was quickly able to send the ball up to the ACFC front line allowing them to push past the opposing defense to take a stab at the goal.
The Atlantic City FC then got aggressive late in the first half and created a couple of more scoring chances with both Tavoy Morgan and Matt Hendrickson almost scoring but missing their shots wide. The first half came to an end with a tied score of 0-0.
The second half opened up with a new set of opportunities for the ACFC offense. Matt Hendrickson, Tavoy Morgan, and Matt Jeffery combined to generate several scoring chances but couldn’t convert.
Several offsides penalties disrupted those scoring opportunities. FC Baltimore Christos was able to penetrate the defense which led to a couple of shots on goal and in the sixty-eighth minute Forward Cesar Marconi was able to convert the winning shot to the back of the net.
The Atlantic City FC would make one last charge to try to tie things up by attempting several shots outside the box. Opportunities also came when they were awarded several corner kicks that ended up being saved by the keeper.
Overall, Atlantic City FC moved the ball very well as you can see how hard the players worked to try to tie the game up. Clearly, both teams wanted to win. When the final whistle blew, the FC Baltimore Christos had defeated Atlantic City FC 1-0.
