The last time the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship raced was back on January 25th and 26th at Daytona International Speedway. On Saturday night, IMSA returned to resume their season at Daytona International Speedway for the IMSA WeatherTech 240.

Fans were allowed to attend this race. The race was supposed to get underway at 6 pm, but due to rain and lightning in the area, the race was delayed. After the delay, the race finally got underway.

There were some great battles for all three classes in the DPi, GTLM, and GTD throughout the race. In the DPi class, Mazda Racing put on a show. Once they were able to get the lead from Penske Racing, Mazda was in control.

The only other team that did get to lead was the number 31 car of Action Express. Once Mazda resumed the lead, the battle that was on was for second place between Pipo Derani and Oliver Jarvis. The number 55 Mazda DPi car driven by Harry Tinknell and Jonathan Bomarito won the race with their teammates Oliver Jarvis, and Tristan Vautier finished in second place.

In the GTLM class, the number three Corvette driven by Jordan Taylor and Andy Garcia picked up the win. For Garcia, it was career win number 100. The win did not come easy for him as there were concerns that he wouldn’t have enough fuel to make it to the finish line. Coming in second place was the number 911 Porsche team of Nick Tandy and Fred Makowiecki. They only trailed the Corvette team by 1.977 seconds.

For the GTD class, the number 14 Lexus RS car, driven by Jack Hawksworth and Aaron Telitz, took home the victory by 6.915 seconds over the second-place finishers and teammates Townsend Bell and Frankie Montecalvo. Coming in third and fourth were the Acura teammates of Mario Farnbacher and Alvaro Parente.

The IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championships will be back in action in two weeks at Sebring for the Cadillac Grand Prix of Sebring on Saturday, July 18th, on NBCSN.
