Will Power gets his first win of the season at Mid-Ohio Race One

The NTT IndyCar Series arrived at Mid-Ohio for a doubleheader weekend beginning Saturday afternoon in Race One of the Honda Indy 200. On the pole for this race was Will Power with a lap time of 1:06.334 at 122.543 mph. Ryan Hunter-Reay qualified second with a lap time of 1:06.729 at 121.819.

Will Power led the first 21 laps before making his first scheduled pit stop when Alexander Rossi took over the lead. Rossi would lead five laps before making his scheduled pit stop with Will Power resuming the lead. Power led an additional 21 laps before making his final scheduled pit stop on lap 47 with Colton Herta now in the lead.

Herta led four laps before making his final scheduled pit stop on lap 51 as Will Power resumed the lead. Ryan Hunter-Reay and Felix Rosenqvist were in a battle for sixth place but Hunter-Reay was able to keep the position. Upfront, Will Power would lead the last 24 laps to get his first victory of the season by 7.452 seconds over his teammate Josef Newgarden.

The rest of the top ten finishers were Alexander Rossi third, Graham Rahal fourth, Ryan Hunter-Reay fifth, Felix Rosenqvist sixth, Jack Harvey seventh, Rinus VeeKay eighth, Colton Herta ninth, and Scott Dixon tenth. There were no cautions and four lead changes.

Point standings after this race are Scott Dixon with a 76-point lead over Josef Newgarden. Patricio O’Ward third (-120), Takuma Sato fourth (-146), Will Power fifth (-156), Colton Herta sixth (-162), Graham Rahal seventh (-168), Simon Pagenaud eighth (-187), Felix Rosenqvist ninth (-200), and Santino Ferrucci tenth (-204).

The NTT IndyCar Series will conclude the doubleheader weekend Sunday afternoon with Race Two of the Honda Indy 200 at 1 pm on NBC.
