The Spring League Week 1 Recap

The Spring League

The Spring League wrapped up its first week of the season Tuesday night at the Alamodome in San Antonio, TX, with three games on tap. Here are the results.

Alphas 0, Blues 19

It was a battle of two former Big 10 rivals with Shea Patterson (Michigan) of the Blues and JT Barrett (Ohio State) of the Alphas. The Alphas could not find a way to score in this game. Patterson threw for three touchdowns with Jovon Durante catching two of them; the other went to Quon Marshall.

The Blues defense held the Alphas in check intercepting Barrett once and sacking him seven times. The Blues play the Aviators next Wednesday, November 4th, at 8 pm on FS1, while the Alphas will play the Conquerors next Wednesday, November 4th, at 10 pm on FS1.

Jousters 0, Aviators 28

In the second game, the Jousters took on the Aviators. Former Toronto Argonauts quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson was the quarterback for the Aviators while former Wisconsin/Florida State quarterback Alex Hornibrook led the Jousters.

The first points were scored by former Calgary Stampeders defensive back DeShaun Amos intercepting Stanley and went 82-yard for the touchdown to put the Aviators up 7-0. Bethel-Thompson connected to tight-end Nicholas Truesdell to make it a 14-0 lead at halftime.

Aviators running-back Devwah Whaley (Arkansas) rushed for a seven-yard touchdown for a 21-0 lead. A little over midway through the fourth quarter, Bethel-Thompson threw a three-yard touchdown pass to Romar Morris (North Carolina) for a 28-0 Aviators lead.

The Aviators recovered a fumble with 1:26 left in the game. DeShaun Amos finished the game with two interceptions and three forced fumbles. The Aviators will play the Blues next Wednesday, November 4th, at 8 pm on FS1, while the Jousters will play the Generals next Thursday at 8 pm.

In the last game of the night on FS1, the Generals took on the Conquerors. Former Fordham quarterback Kevin Anderson led the Conquerors while the Generals were led by former Occidental College Bryan Scott. Generals running-back Darnell Holland scored the first touchdown, but the extra point was no good for a 6-0 lead. An interception by Channing Stribling gave the Generals the ball back. They would turn the turnover into three points for a 9-0 lead.

On the next series for the Conquerors, Anderson threw his second interception, this time in the hands of Arnold Tarpley III. In the next series, the Generals would add more points to the scoreboard, with Scott connecting to his tight-end Salvatore Cannella. The extra point was good, and the Generals were up 16-0.

Justin McMillan was the new quarterback for the Conquerors. He got the Conquerors back in the game with a rushing touchdown to cut the Generals lead 16-7. The Generals responded with Darnell Holland rushing for his second touchdown to make it a 23-7 lead.

Kevin Anderson was back at quarterback for the Conquerors and connected to Michael Bandy inch closer to the Generals 23-14.  The Conquerors converted a two-point conversion to trial 23-16. Generals kicker Marc Orozco would kick a field just before halftime to put the Generals up by ten points 26-16.
