Week 3 of The Spring League got off to a rough start Wednesday afternoon. The Jousters and the Alphas, who were initially supposed to play on Tuesday, was pushed back due to COVID-19 protocols.
However, the Jousters lack of practice time forced them to forfeit the game against the Alphas. The Spring League uses the NFL rules, and as a result, the Alphas won 2-0. The Alphas are now 2-1 for the season, while the Jousters dropped to 0-3.
The Jousters will play the Conquerors next Tuesday, November 17th, at 8 pm on FS1 while the Alphas play the Blues next Wednesday, November 18th at 3 pm. That game will not be televised. In the last game of Week 3, the Generals played the Blues.
Generals 42, Blues 28
The Blues went three and out on their first possession, it was the Generals turn, and they didn’t waste any time. The Generals marched down to the Blues two-yard line and cashed in with running back Paul Terry, scoring the game’s first touchdown to put the Generals up 7-0. The game remained 7-0 at the end of the first quarter.
The Blues finally got going in the second quarter. Blues quarterback Shea Patterson rushed for a two-yard touchdown plus the extra point was good to tie the game up 7-7. The Generals responded on the next possession with Bryan Scott connecting to Jordan Suell for a 25-yard touchdown pass. Lirim Hajrullahu made the extra point to put the Generals back up 14-7.
On the next Blues possession, the team changed quarterbacks with Jackson Erdmann in for Patterson. The team went three and out, and for the next six minutes, both teams went three and out. With 1:44 left in the second quarter, Erdmann’s pass was intercepted by Christian McFarland. The Generals were unable to turn the turnover into points, and the game remained 14-7 at halftime.
The Blues put Shea Patterson back in to start the second half. On the first play in the third quarter, Patterson was picked off by Generals defensive back Amani Dennis. After moving the ball down the field, the Generals were looking to add three more points on the board, but the Blues special teams blocked the field goal.
The Blues moved down the field with running back Matthew Colburn II, finishing the job on a 15-yard touchdown run as the game was tied 14-14. That was as close as the Blues got to the Generals for the rest of the game.
With 3:52 left in the third quarter, Bryan Scott found tight end Sal Cannella for a 15-yard touchdown pass to put the Generals back up 21-14. The score remained 21-14 at the end of the third quarter. A minute into the fourth quarter, Scott found Jordan Suell for the second time on a 71-yard touchdown pass to extend the Generals lead 28-14.
The Blues moved the ball down the field as Patterson found Joe Walker for a 16-yard touchdown pass to cut the Generals lead 28-21. Just as momentum seemed to be going the Blues way, the Generals responded. Darnell Holland took one to the house for a 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to put the Generals back up by fourteen points 35-21.
On the next possession for the Blues, Patterson tried to throw one to Joe Walker but overthrew him. Generals defensive back Ikem Okeke intercepted the pass. The Generals marched down the field with Scott finding Suell for the third time on a 25-yard touchdown pass to go up by three scores 42-21.
The Blues once again changed quarterbacks putting Erdmann back in for Patterson. Unfortunately for Erdmann, he was knocked out of the game after being hit by Okeke. Patterson returned to the field. With 1:19 left in the game, the Blues put up seven more points with Patterson throwing a nine-yard touchdown pass to Adrian Adams. Jonathan Barnes made the extra point to cut the Generals lead 42-28.
The Blues were able to recover an onside kick; however, Patterson threw his third interception of the game to Rashad Robinson, sealing the game for the Generals as they defeated the Blues 42-28. Bryan Scott was 24/36 for 314-yards and four touchdowns, while Blues quarterback Shea Patterson finished the game 20/34 for 247-yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions.
The Generals are the only undefeated team in the TSL with a 3-0 record. They will play the Aviators next Wednesday, November 18th, at 8 pm on FS1, while the Blues will also look to rebound next Wednesday against the Alphas at 3 pm. That game won’t be televised.
