New York Mets acquire Lindor and Carrasco from Indians

The New York Mets made a blockbuster deal Thursday when they acquired shortstop Francisco Lindor and pitcher Carlos Carrasco for infielders Amed Rosario, Andres Gimenez, and minor league prospect pitcher Josh Wolf and outfielder Isaiah Greene.

Lindor, 27, will enter his seventh year in 2021. He has played 777 games with the Indians with a .285 batting average, a .488 slugging percentage, 3,140 at-bats, 896 hits, 508 runs, 138 home runs, 411 rbi’s, and 99 stolen bases. These stats have earned him several awards, including a four-time All-Star (2015-19), a two-time Golden Glove Award (2016, 2019), and a two-time Silver Slugger Award (2017-2018). In 2020, he played all 60 games with a .250 batting average with eight home runs, 27 RBIs, and six stolen bases.

Carlos Carrasco is a familiar name to Phillies fans. He was part of the Cliff Lee trade back in 2009 and has spent his entire major league career with the Indians. In 2020, his record was 3-4 in twelve games with a 2.91 era, 82 strikeouts, allowing 22 runs, and 27 walks. His overall record is 88-73 with a 3.77 era, 1305 strikeouts in 1242.1 innings pitched. In 2019, he won MLB’s Comeback Player of the Year.

The Indians are in cost-cutting mode, and the players they are getting back as part of the trade is Amed Rosario. The 25-year-old shortstop from the Dominican Republic played 46 games last year had a .252 batting average with 36 hits, four home runs, and fifteen RBIs. He will enter his fifth year, first with the Indians and his overall stats are .268 batting average with 63 doubles, 32 home runs, and 148 RBIs in 403 games.

Andres Gimenez can play multiple positions and completed his rookie season. The 21-year-old from Barquisimeto, Venezuela, played 49 games with a .263 batting average, three doubles, two triples, three home runs, and twelve RBIs.

The Mets open Spring Training on February 27th against the Miami Marlins. The regular season starts April 1st at the Washington Nationals.
