On Thursday, Superstar Racing Experience announced that two-time Daytona 500 winner Michael Waltrip will compete for the 2021 season. Waltrip has not raced in NASCAR since his retirement in 2017 and has been a broadcaster for FOX’s NASCAR coverage.

Waltrip released a statement on joining SRX said, “This is an awesome opportunity, and I’m genuinely excited to get back in a racecar. I still love racing, and I still want to compete. SRX is a great platform, and all of us want to win. We might have gray hair and maybe even no hair, but when we put that helmet on and go race, the desire and talent is still there. You want to see a show? We’re gonna put on a show.”

Waltrip competed in NASCAR for 33 years as a driver and an owner. He was one of the founding teams when Toyota joined NASCAR in 2007. He made 784 career starts in the Cup Series, winning four poles, four wins, including the Daytona 500 twice (2001, 2003), 41 top-five, and 133 top-ten finishes. He also has eleven career wins in the Xfinity Series, one in the Camping World Truck Series, and one win in the ARCA Menards Series.

Waltrip now joins a group of veteran drivers who will compete in the six-race season that starts on June 12th from Stafford Motor Speedway that will air live on CBS. The other tracks they will visit are Knoxville Speedway, Eldora Speedway, Lucas Oil Raceway, Slinger Speedway, and the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway. CBS and CBS Sports Network will carry the six-race season.

The other drivers that will compete in the SRX season are Tony Stewart, Paul Tracy, Helio Castroneves, Ernie Francis Jr., Willy T. Ribbs, Bill Elliott, Bobby Labonte Mark Webber, Tony Kannan, and Marco Andretti.
