The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (3-1) were back at Coca-Cola Park Saturday night for game four against the Rochester Red Wings (1-3). The IronPigs are coming off their first loss of the season 10-3. The IronPigs starting pitcher was Cristopher Sánchez, while the Red Wings started Rogelio Armenteros.
IronPigs pitcher Cristopher Sánchez started the first inning by getting the Red Wings batters to ground out, line out, and fly out. In the second inning, he only gave up one hit and managed to strike out Yasmany Tomas. Then he was able to get two Red Wings players to ground out and a forceout that ended the top of the second inning.
Lehigh Valley started the bottom of the second inning with a double by Austin Listi, followed by two walks to load the bases. After Cornelius Randolph struck out, Lehigh Valley catcher Edgar Cabral hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Listi and a 1-0 lead to end the second.
Sánchez got a flyout before walking Rogelio Armenteros with one out. He would then strike out the next two batters to end the top of the third inning. The IronPigs added more runs in the bottom of the third inning. After Sánchez struck out, Travis Jankowski walked before Ronald Torreyes doubled to left field to score Jankowski and make it a 2-0 lead.
IronPigs centerfielder Mickey Moniak walked, and Austin Listi singled to center field to score Torreyes to extend Lehigh Valley’s lead 3-0. Darick Hall was walked before the Red Wings made a pitching change. Substituting for Rogelio Armenteros was T.J. McFarland.
IronPigs’ second baseman Luke Williams was next up at-bat. Williams singled to left field to score two runners to blow the game open at 5-0.
Cristopher Sánchez pitched one more inning as he was able to get a flyout and grounded into a double play to end the top of the fourth inning. He would finish the game going 4.0 innings, allowing two hits, three walks, and three strikeouts.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, the IronPigs started the inning, going back-to-back singles by Travis Jankowski and Ronald Torreyes. After Mickey Moniak struck out, Austin Listi singled to left to score Jankowski for a 6-0 lead.
The IronPigs’ new pitcher to start the top of the fifth inning was Ethan Evanko. Evanko got all three batters out. He ran into trouble in the sixth inning. He allowed two singles before Red Wings first baseman Raudy Read hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring home Carter Kieboom and cut the IronPigs lead 6-1. He was then able to get a strikeout and a forceout to end the inning.
Lehigh Valley would add one more run in the bottom of the seventh inning. After a double by Luke Williams, Edgar Cabral singled to left field to bring Williams home to get the run back to 7-1.
The Red Wings would add one more run in the top of the eighth inning. Luis Garcia singled to left field, and a groundout by Carlos Tocci moved Garcia to second base. Jake Noll singled to left field to score Garcia to cut the lead to 7-2.
IronPigs pitcher Bryan Mitchell closed out the game in the top of the ninth inning. He allowed two singles before getting Brandon Snyder to ground out into a double play and Louis Garcia to ground out to end the game as the IronPigs defeated the Red Wings 7-2.
Lehigh Valley pitcher Ethan Evanko got the win, going 2.0 innings, allowing two hits, one earned run, and one strikeout. IronPigs pitchers Kyle Dohy and Bryan Mitchell combined for 2.3 innings, allowing two hits with no earned runs. Bryan Mitchell got his first save of the year.
