IronPigs crush the Syracuse Mets 16-1

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (8-5) returned to NBT Bank Stadium Wednesday night for game two against the Syracuse Mets (2-11). The starting pitchers for the game were David Parkinson for the IronPigs against Jordan Yamamoto of the Mets.

The game was scoreless for the first two innings. Then the IronPigs bats came alive at the top of the third inning. The Mets made a pitching change for the third inning, going with Oscar De La Cruz. The inning started with Yamamoto walking IronPigs pitcher David Parkinson. Then, IronPig’s second baseman Luke Williams and right fielder Ryan Cordell both hit singles to load the bases. IronPigs center fielder Mickey Moniak was up next. He singled to center field that scored Parkinson to go up 1-0.

IronPigs shortstop C.J. Chatham was up to bat next, and he doubled to left field as two runners scored for a 3-0 lead. The next batter up was first baseman, Darick Hall. He grounded out to first base that scored Parkinson with Lehigh Valley now up 4-0. IronPigs third baseman Austin Listi was next and doubled to center field, bringing home C.J. Chatham for a 5-0 lead.

The next man up for Lehigh Valley was right fielder Cornelius Randolph. He added to the score when he doubled towards left field that scored Austin Listi. The IronPigs were now up 6-0. That was it for De La Cruz, then Trey Cobb came in to pitch for the Mets. IronPigs catcher Edgar Cabral singled on a line drive to left field that brought home Randolph for a 7-0. Cobb would get the next two outs to end the inning.

Moving ahead to the top of the fourth inning, Mickey Moniak crushed a home run out towards right field for an 8-0 lead. IronPigs shortstops C.J. Chatham singled to left field. After Darick Hall flew out to center field, Austin Listi singled to right field, moving Chatham to second base. Then, Cornelius Randolph doubled to center field, bringing home two more runners for a 10-0 lead.

Moving ahead to the top of the sixth inning, C.J. Chatham was hit on the hand and taken out of the game. Ruben Tejada replaced Chatham at shortstop. First baseman Darick Hall flied out to left field before Austin Listi singled to center field, moving Tejada to second base. Right fielder Cornelius Randolph doubled to center field to score Tejada for an 11-0 lead.

The Mets would finally get on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning when right fielder Quinn Brodey singled, bringing home Drew Anderson to cut the IronPigs lead 11-1. Lehigh Valley got that run back in the top of the eighth inning after a home run by Cornelius Randolph for a 12-1 lead.  

Moving ahead to the top of the ninth inning with one out, IronPigs second baseman Luke Williams walked. A double by Ryan Cordell put both runners on second and third. Center fielder Mickey Moniak grounded out to second base that brought home Williams for a 13-1 win.

Shortstop Ruben Tejada singled to right field, bringing home Cordell for a 14-1 lead. Then IronPigs first baseman Darick Hall hit a two-run home run to center field with Lehigh Valley’s lead now 16-1. IronPigs pitcher JD Hammer pitched the bottom of the ninth inning to close it out. He got three Mets players to strike out which ended the game. Lehigh Valley defeated the Syracuse Mets 16-1.

IronPigs starting pitcher David Parkinson pitched four innings with two hits allowed, two walks, and one strikeout. The winning pitcher went to IronPigs reliever Ethan Evanko while the loss went to Mets pitcher Oscar De La Cruz.

Lehigh Valley’s bullpen went five innings, with five hits allowed, one run, one walk, and seven strikeouts. The IronPigs will return to NBT Bank Stadium for game three against the Mets today at 6:35 pm on MiLB.com.
