A pair of second-half goals lead Ocean City to a 2-1 win

Ocean City Nor'easters

The Ocean City Nor’easters (2-0) made their 2021 home debut Sunday night at Carey Stadium for the 24th year against West Chester United SC (3-0-1).

In the game’s opening minute, West Chester United SC struck first when Ronald Williams made a long pass to Leon Maric. Maric put the ball into the net for a 1-0 lead.

For the remainder of the first half, Ocean City put pressure on West Chester. They came close several times by creating chances to tie the game. The Predators kept advancing into the Nor’easters’ side but were quickly halted. Ocean City’s offense continued to pressure West Chester but to no avail.  West Chester led 1-0 at halftime.

The Nor’easters showed improvement in the second half. They continued to spend more time in West Chester’s end. Finally, in the 62nd minute, Tyler Watson put the ball up in the air before Austin DaSilva’s headbutt shot was redirected into the net by Ulrik Edvardsen to tie the game at one apiece.

Then in the 64th minute, Edvardsen sent the ball Theo Quartey’s way. The ball bounced to Quartey, then kicked the ball over the goalkeeper’s head and in for the goal. The Nor’easters now led 2-1.

For the remainder of the game, Ocean City looked for insurance goals with every possession. They came close to adding another from Olle Kaissidis, but his shot hit the goalpost. As time was ticking down, the Nor’easters kept the ball away from West Chester United SC.

West Chester United SC did get some chances to score but were denied by Ocean City’s defense. When the final whistle blew, the Nor’easters defeated West Chester United SC 2-1. With the win, Ocean City extends their home unbeaten streak to ten games, four straight home opener win, and the fourth 3-0 start in club history.

The Ocean City Nor’easters will have time off before their next match on Wednesday, June 2nd, at 7 pm against Reading United AC from Carey Stadium.
