IronPigs Three-Game Win Streak Snapped by Red Sox 9-2

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (13-7) were back at Coca-Cola Park for game three Thursday night versus the Worcester Red Sox (11-9). Lehigh Valley were looking for their fourth win in a row. The starting pitchers for the game were Adonis Medina of Lehigh Valley and Ryan Weber for the Red Sox.

In the bottom of the first inning, IronPigs center fielder Cornelius Randolph singled to right field. He later stole second base. Two batters later, right fielder Ryan Cordell was up. He singled to left field. The ball went over the glove of Red Sox shortstop Yairo Munoz which brought home Randolph for a 1-0 lead.

Moving ahead to the top of the third inning. Adonis Medina gave up a single to Red Sox catcher Jeff Bandy. Then he threw a wild pitch, moving Bandy to second base. Medina walked Red Sox second baseman Jack Lopez. Red Sox third baseman Jonathan Arauz singled to left field to load the bases.

Then Red Sox’s first baseman Michael Chaves reached on a fielding error by Ruben Tejada to bring home a run and tie the game. Two batters later, Red Sox designated hitter Marcus Wilson singled to third base scoring Arauz for a 2-1 Red Sox lead.

Worcester right fielder Cesar Puello singled on a 1-2 count, scoring two more runners extending the Red Sox lead 4-1. After Marcus Wilson stole third base, Red Sox center fielder Michael Gettys singled with two outs towards center field, adding another run 5-1. This would be it for Medina. He finished the game 2.2 IP, 5 ER, 2 BB,1 SO. The new pitcher for the IronPigs was Ethan Evanko. Evanko got the last out.

In the bottom of the third inning, the IronPigs cut the Red Sox lead 5-2 on a solo home run by Mickey Moniak.

The Red Sox were still up 5-2, heading to the top of the eighth inning. Lehigh Valley made a pitching change with Mauricio Llovera in for David Paulino. After getting Jack Lopez to pop out for the first out. Llovera gave up a double to Jonathan Arauz and a single to Michael Chaves. Then Red Sox shortstop Yairo Munoz grounded into a force out scoring Arauz to extend the Red Sox lead 6-2.

After Llovera walked Red Sox left fielder Franchy Cordero, he gave up a double to Marcus Wilson, allowing two more runs for an 8-2 Red Sox lead.

At the top of the ninth inning, the IronPigs moved catcher Jack Conley to pitch, and Edgar Cabral came in to catch. Conley walked two batters, got Jack Lopez to fly out, followed by a single from Michael Chaves to load the bases. The Red Sox would get one more run on a ground out by Yairo Munoz for a 9-2 lead.

The Red Sox brought in Kevin McCarthy to close the game. He did, and the Red Sox won 9-2. The loss snapped Lehigh Valley’s three-game winning streak. The winning pitcher went to Red Sox’s Ryan Weber (6.0 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 7 SO), and the loss went to Adonis Medina.            

The IronPigs return to Coca-Cola Park for game four today at 7:05 pm on MiLB.com.
