Atlantic City FC defeats West Chester United SC 4-2

Atlantic City FC (2-0-1) were back at Egg Harbor Township High School’s Silver Eagle Stadium Sunday afternoon versus West Chester United SC (2-0). The players had to deal with damp conditions on the field.

In the early minutes of the game, the Aces spent time observing the field, looking for the right opportunity to strike. Around the sixth minute, the Aces started to attack the Predators’ defense. Loic Jean Baptiste came close to scoring the first goal of the game.

In the tenth minute, Christian Schneider found Jeremy Opong for a header to the upper right corner that put Atlantic City FC up 1-0.

Shortly after the first goal, Baptiste sent the ball to Ahdan Tait. West Chester’s goalie Nicholas Christoffersen attempted to block Tait’s shot, leaving the net open, and Tait delivered to the lower right corner for a 2-0 lead.

Down 2-0, West Chester United went on the attack. They had several chances, including a couple of corner kicks, but were unable to find the net. The Aces’ defense cleared the zone.

In the closing minutes of the first half, Baptiste sent the ball towards the middle of the field, where Christian Schneider buried the shot to the upper right corner that extended Atlantic City FC’s lead to 3-0.

Moving to the second half, Atlantic City had another opportunity to extend the lead off a corner kick, but Nicholas Christoffersen stopped the shot. West Chester started to put pressure on the Aces. In the 66th minute, West Chester ended the shutout with Thomas Fielding scoring from the lower right corner of the net cutting Atlantic City’s lead 3-1.

In the 71st minute, the Aces were on the move. A West Chester defender stopped Spencer Patten’s pass to Jeremy Opong before Loic Jean Baptiste finished the play for the goal and a 4-1 lead.

In the 78th minute, Thomas Fielding scored his second goal when his shot went off Niklas Laenger’s foot that redirected into the net. The Aces now led 4-2.

Late in the game, it appeared that West Chester United scored a goal in the 90th minute. However, the goal was waved off for offsides. The two teams played extra minutes before the final whistle was blown. Atlantic City FC defeated West Chester United SC 4-2.

With the win, Atlantic City FC improves to 3-0-1 for the season. They are tied for first place in the Keystone Conference with FC Motown. Next Saturday, June 5th, one of these teams will have sole possession of first when FC Motown comes to town against Atlantic City FC. First kick is set for 6 pm on MyCujoo.com.
