IronPigs derailed by RailRiders 10-2

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (14-11) returned to PNC Field Wednesday night for game two against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (16-7). The IronPigs snapped a four-game losing streak last night over the RailRiders 5-2. The starting pitchers for the game were Lehigh Valley’s Adonis Medina (3-1, 3.48) versus Adam Warren (2-0, 0.90) of Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

At the top of the second inning, with the bases loaded and no outs, IronPigs second baseman Scott Kingery hit a sacrifice fly scoring Edgar Cabral for a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the second inning, with a runner on first base and two outs. RailRiders left fielder Thomas Milone tripled out towards center field that tied the game.

An inning later, with a runner on second base and one out, RailRiders right fielder Socrates Brito hit a two-run home run out towards center field that gave the RailRiders a 3-1 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, with runners on first and second and one out, RailRiders first baseman Chris Gittens singled towards left field, scoring Thomas Milone for a 4-1 lead. Then a sacrifice fly by Socrates Brito added another run 5-1.

Moving to the bottom of the sixth inning, the RailRiders blew the game wide open. The IronPigs made a pitching change with Brady Lail in for Adonis Medina. With two runners on base with no outs, RailRiders shortstop Hoy Jun Park crushed a three-run home run out towards right field for an 8-1 lead.

Three batters later, with two outs, Lail hit Derek Dietrich. Then RailRiders designated hitter Trey Amburgey hit a two-run home run out towards center field for a 10-1 lead.

Moving to the top of the ninth inning with a runner on first base and two outs. Lehigh Valley center fielder Mickey Moniak doubled out towards center field, scoring a run for a 10-2 RailRiders lead. RailRiders pitcher Reggie McClain got the last out, and the Lehigh Valley IronPigs lost 10-2 to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders.

The winning pitcher was Albert Abreu (3.2 IP. 1 H, 6 SO), and the loss went to Adonis Medina (5.0 IP, 9 H, 5 ER, 2 BB, 6 SO).

The IronPigs play the RailRiders for game three today at 6:35 pm with Matt Moore pitching for Lehigh Valley versus Brian Keller of Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
