Moniak’s home runs send the IronPigs to a 5-4 Win

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (14-13) returned to PNC Field Friday night for game four versus the Scranton/ Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (18-7). Lehigh Valley has lost two straight games to the RailRiders. The starting pitchers for the game were Lehigh Valley’s Bailey Falter (1-0, 1.93) against RailRiders Deivi Garcia (1-0, 5.17).

The game was scoreless for the first three innings. In the bottom of the fourth inning with one out, RailRiders left fielder Thomas Milone’s solo home run put Scranton up 1-0.

Moving ahead to the top of the sixth inning with two runners on and one out, Lehigh Valley right fielder Mickey Moniak hit an opposite three-run home run to put the IronPigs up 3-1.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, with a runner on second and two outs, RailRiders third baseman Armando Alvarez doubled to left field, scoring a run that cut the IronPigs lead 3-2.

At the top of the eighth inning, with a runner on first and one out, Mickey Moniak hit a two-run home run out towards right field that extended Lehigh Valley’s lead 5-2.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, the IronPigs sent Neftali Feliz out to close the game. Four batters later, with two outs and a runner on first, RailRiders shortstop Andrew Velazquez hit a two-run home run out towards left field that made it a one-run game 5-4. Feliz struck out Socrates Brito to end the game and a 5-4 win.

Lehigh Valley starting pitcher Bailey Falter earned the win (5.0 IP, 1 ER, 1 BB, 6 SO), and the loss went to Deivi Garcia (5.1 IP, 2 ER, 3 BB, 7 SO). Neftali Feliz earned his third save of the season.

Both teams return to PNC Field for game five today at 4:05 pm with Lehigh Valley sending David Parkinson (0-1, 5.52) against Brody Koerner (1-1, 2.95) of Scranton/ Wilkes-Barre.
