Lehigh Valley IronPigs defeat Rochester Red Wings 4-2

Lehigh Valley IronPigs

The Lehigh Valley (16-14) returned to Coca-Cola Park Tuesday night against the Rochester Red Wings (10-20). In their last meeting between these two teams, the IronPigs won five of six games. The starting pitchers for the game were Matt Moore (0-1, 3.86 ERA) of Lehigh Valley versus Sterling Sharp (1-0, 3.12 ERA) for Rochester.

Matt Moore worked himself into a jam with the bases loaded and one out in the first inning. Then he threw a wild pitch. The ball hit the ground, bounced up in the air before landing in Rafael Marchan’s glove. A runner was attempting to score, and Marchan dove at the plate to tag him for the second out. The IronPigs escaped the inning without giving up a run.

At the top of the fourth inning, the Red Wings added a couple of runs from back-to-back home runs by left fielder Jake Noll and first baseman Brandon Snyder. In the bottom of the fourth inning, the IronPigs cut the lead in half 2-1 when Nick Maton singled to center field, scoring a run.

With runners on first and second and one out, IronPigs first baseman Darick Hall doubled to right field that brought home both runners for a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Moving ahead to the bottom of the seventh inning with one out, Lehigh Valley’s first baseman Austin Listi added an insurance run with a solo home run out towards left field for a 4-2 lead. It was Listi’s first home run of the season.

IronPigs pitcher David Paulino pitched in the ninth inning. With one out, he walked Blake Swihart. Then he got the next two batters to line out and a forceout that ended the game. The IronPigs defeated the Red Wings 4-2.

Lehigh Valley starting pitcher Matt Moore went (3.2 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, and 3 SO). The winning pitcher went to Mauricio Llovera (1.1 IP, 1 SO), while the loss went to Sterling Sharp (6.0 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 1 SO). David Paulino (1.1 IP, 1 BB, 1 SO) earned his second save of the season.

Lehigh Valley (17-14) continues its six-game series at Coca-Cola Park today at 7:05 on MiLB.com. The IronPigs send Adonis Medina (3-2, 4.56 ERA) to the mound versus Tyler Eppler (0-3, 8.20 ERA) of Rochester.
