Gregorius two RBI’s not enough in a 4-3 loss

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (17-15) continued its six-game series with game three against the Rochester Red Wings (11-21) at Coca-Cola Park Thursday night. The starting pitchers for the game were Rogelio Armenteros (0-4, 6.04 ERA, 26 SO) of Rochester and Ramon Rosso (0-1, 5. 06 ERA) for Lehigh Valley.

In the bottom of the first inning, Lehigh Valley shortstop Didi Gregorius put the IronPigs up 1-0 with a solo home run out towards right field.

At the top of the second inning, with the bases loaded and one out, Red Wings center fielder Cody Wilson drove in a run on a single to right field. This tied the game at one apiece. Lehigh Valley brought in Jeff Singer to replace Rosso. Then Red Wings pitcher Rogelio Armenteros tacked on another run with a sacrifice fly towards right field for a 2-1 lead.

With a runner on first base and two outs, Didi Gregorius doubled on a sharp line drive towards center field, scoring a run that tied the game 2-2.

The Red Wings added two more runs at the top of the third inning. Third baseman Brandon Snyder launched one out towards left field for a two-run home run as Rochester regained the lead 4-2.

Moving ahead to the bottom of the seventh inning with runners on the corners and two outs. IronPigs second baseman Nick Maton doubled out towards left field, scoring a run that brought Lehigh Valley within one 4-3.

Rochester brought Justin Miller in the bottom of the ninth inning. Mickey Moniak was up at bat. With two men on base and two outs, Miller threw a wild pitch moving the runners up to second and third. Moniak battled before striking out. The Red Wings defeated the IronPigs 4-3.

Lehigh Valley starting pitcher Ramon Rosso finished the night (1.1 IP, 1 H, 2 ER, 3 BB). The win went to Red Wings pitcher Alberto Baldonado (1.0 IP, 1 SO), while the loss went to IronPigs pitcher Jeff Singer (1.1 IP, 2 H, 2 ER). Red Wings close Justin Miller (1.0 IP, 1 BB, 2 SO) earned his fifth save of the year.

Both teams return to Coca-Cola Park for game four today at 7:05 pm. On the mound for Lehigh Valley is David Parkinson (0-2, 5.48 ERA) to counter Rochester’s Josh Rogers (1-3, 6.26 ERA).
