IronPigs shut out by Red Wings 9-0 in Game One

After being rained out on Friday night, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (17-16) played game one of a doubleheader at Coca-Cola Park against the Rochester Red Wings (12-21). The starting pitchers for the game were David Parkinson (0-2, 5.48 ERA) of Lehigh Valley versus Rochester’s Josh Rogers (1-3, 6.26 ERA).

IronPigs pitcher David Parkinson retired the first nine batters before walking two players to start the top of the fourth inning. A Jake Noll groundout led the Red Wings to score the first run of the game 1-0.

Parkinson had pitched (5.2 IP, 1 ER, 3 BB, 5 SO) before being replaced by JD Hammer at the top of the sixth inning. The Red Wings were still up 1-0, heading into the top of the seventh inning.

At the top of the seventh inning, the IronPigs went with Damon Jones. With the bases loaded and one out, Jones walked Carter Kieboom that extended the Red Wings’ lead 2-0. Then Jones walked Gerardo Parra for a 3-0 lead. Brady Lail replaced Jones.

The next batter up was Red Wings shortstop Luis Garcia. Garcia hit an RBI double towards right field, scoring two more runs for a 5-0 lead. Then first baseman Jake Noll cleared the bases with a three-run home run over left field that blew the game open 8-0.

Two batters later, Red Wings right fielder Daniel Palka added another run with a solo home run out towards right-center field.

At the bottom of the seventh inning, the Red Wings brought Kyle Lobstein to close out the game. After Lobstein gave up a single to right fielder Ryan Cordell, he got the next three batters out to end the game. The Lehigh Valley IronPigs were shut out by the Red Wings 9-0.

The loss went to IronPigs pitcher David Parkinson while Josh Rogers (6.0 IP, 3 H, 1 BB, 1 SO) of Rochester earned the win.

Game two started a half-hour after the first game. The starters for game two were Cristopher Sanchez (1-1, 3.74 ERA) of Lehigh Valley versus Ben Braymer (1-3, 7.25 ERA) for Rochester.
