Atlantic City FC (5-0-1) traveled to Red Bank, NJ, Friday night to face FC Monmouth (2-2-2) at Count Basie Park. This is the first meeting between these two teams this season.
There were five former Atlantic City FC players suited up for FC Monmouth. They were Walter Calderon, Matt Perrella, Jacob Rubenstein, David Nigro, and Giuseppe Barone. Atlantic City FC looked to remain in first place in the Keystone Conference.
Neither team managed to get a shot in the first 31 minutes of the game. Then, in the 39th minute, Atlantic City FC forward Jeremy Opong scored to put the Aces up 1-0. It was Opong’s third goal of the season. The Aces headed to the locker room with a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, FC Monmouth put pressure on the Aces’ defense. Former Aces player David Nigro got off a shot that Aces goalkeeper Marvyn Dorchin stopped.
In the 64th minute, FC Monmouth tied the game 1-1 on a goal from former Aces player Jacob Rubenstein. One minute later, Rubenstein nearly put Monmouth in the lead but missed the shot.
In extra time, both teams made one last push to break the tie. But, unfortunately, neither could do it, and the game ended in a 1-1 draw. Atlantic City FC are now 5-0-2 and in second place behind West Chester United SC at 6-1.
Atlantic City FC are in a good position to clinch a playoff spot in the Keystone Conference with three games remaining in the season.
