The Ocean City Nor’easters 6-1-3) were back at Carey Stadium Friday night versus Real Central New Jersey (2-6-3). The Nor’easters defeated Real Central New Jersey in their first meeting on opening day 3-0.
Ocean City was looking to keep pace with the West Chester United SC in the Mid-Atlantic standings trailing by eight points with the playoffs not far away.
The Nor’easters appeared to have taken a 1-0 lead seven minutes into the game, but Nicholas Akoto was called offsides. Real Central New Jersey did get a couple of chances early in the game, coming away empty-handed.
Then, Ocean City started to put pressure on Real Central New Jersey’s defense. They came close several times to take the lead. Finally, in the 25th minute, Kasper Skraep made a long pass to Caden Stafford for a two-on-one advantage. Then Stafford directed the ball to Austin DaSilva for a chip-in goal that put Ocean City up 1-0. The Nor’easters led 1-0 at halftime.
Two minutes into the second half, Neville Morgan set up Tyler Watson. Watson’s shot deflected off Real Central New Jersey goalkeeper Max Blacker for the goal and a 2-0 lead.
Ocean City were once again on the move when they attacked Real Central New Jersey’s defense. Tel Segev was looking for a clean shot before sending the ball to Theo Quartey’s way. Quartey drew Blacker away from his net, setting up Austin DaSilva’s second goal of the night in the 52nd minute 3-0.
In the 83rd minute, Ocean City were on the attack looking for more goals. Montel McKenzie made a cross pass to Austin DaSilva before directing the ball to the lower-left corner of the net to complete the hat trick 4-0. DaSilva now has four goals for the season and becomes the thirteenth player in Ocean City history to record a hat trick.
Late in the game, Kyle Galloway was tripped inside the box resulting in a free-kick. Galloway bends the ball to the middle right side for a 5-0 lead.
The Ocean City Nor’easters shut out Real Central New Jersey 5-0 and are now 7-1-3 while earning three points in the standings. The Nor’easters finished the night with twenty shots, five goals, and four assists. Goalkeeper Owen Elliot earned the clean sheet.
Ocean City has three games remaining in the season. They head to Reading, PA Tuesday, July 6th, at 7 pm versus Reading United AC.
