IMSA Friday Recap at Watkins Glen International

IMSA returned to Watkins Glen International for the second week in a row. The action started Friday afternoon with the Prototype Challenge, followed by the Michelin Pilot Challenge. The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship concluded with the WeatherTech 240.

Prototype Challenge

The MLT Motorsports of Dakota Dickerson and Josh Sarchet picked up their first win of the season by 18.736 seconds over Muehlner Motorsports America’s Moritz Kranz. The win pulls the MLT Motorsports to ten points behind Moritz Kranz in the points standings.

The Prototype Challenge will return in October at Virginia International Raceway.

Michelin Pilot Challenge

In the GS category, Turner Motorsport of Bill Auberlen and Dillon Machavern won by .615 seconds over Wright Motorsports Ryan Hardwick and Jan Heylen. It was Auberlen’s seventeenth career Michelin Pilot Challenge win.

In TCR, Atlanta Speedwerks Brian Henderson and Robert Noaker won the race over Road Shagger Racing’s Gavin Ernstone and Jon Morley.

The Michelin Pilot Challenge will return in two weeks at Lime Rock Park on July 17th, at 11 am on NBC Sports Gold Track Pass.

WeatherTech 240

In DPi, Whelen Engineering Racing’s Felipe Nasr and Pipo Derani took home the victory by 1.473 seconds over Cadillac Chip Ganassi Racing’s Renger van der Zande and Kevin Magnussen.

In LMP2, PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports Brian Keating and Mikkel Jensen won over WIN Autosport’s Steven Thomas and Tristian Nunez.

For LMP3, Riley Motorsports finished one and two with Gar Robinson and Felipe Fraga, the winners over teammates Jim Cox and Dylan Murray.

In GTLM, Corvette Racing’s Antonio Garcia and Jordan Taylor took home the win over teammates Nick Tandy and Tommy Milner. It was the second straight win for Corvette Racing.

Finally, in GTD, Aaron Telitz and Jack Hawksworth of Vasser Sullivan beat teammates, Frankie Montecalvo and Zach Veach.

The IMSA WeatherTech Series will return in two weeks at Lime Rock Park on Saturday, July 17th, at 3 pm on NBC Sports Gold Track Pass.
