Theo Quartey’s lone goal not enough in a 2-1 loss to West Chester United SC

The Ocean City Nor’easter (8-2-3) lost their second game of the season Friday night to the West Chester United SC Predators (11-1-2). With the loss, West Chester United SC clinched the USL League Two’s Mid-Atlantic Division title.

Both teams went back and forth on possessions in the first twenty-five minutes of the game, with Ocean City having three chances to get on the board but came away empty-handed.

West Chester United SC went up 1-0 in the 31st minute when Troy Amspacher redirected Kyle Tucker’s shot into the back of the net. Four minutes later, the game was halted in the 35th minute due to a lightning delay. The delay lasted over two hours before the game resumed.

In the 44th minute, Conor Bradley put the ball in front of Christopher Donavan before sailing the ball over Ocean City goalkeeper Owen Elliot’s head for a 2-0 lead. West Chester United SC led 2-0 at halftime.

In the second half, the Nor’easters were pressuring the Predators’ defense getting three shots off. Finally, in the 68th minute, Alex Andersson was taken down inside the 18-yard box, resulting in a penalty kick taken by Theo Quartey. Quartey converted the goal to cut the Predators lead to 2-1.

Ocean City kept the pressure on West Chester United SC taking shots from different angles of the field but again came up empty. Time ran out for the Nor’easters and fell to West Chester United SC 2-1. Ocean City finishes in second place in the Mid-Atlantic Division with one game left to go in the regular season. The Nor’easters finished the game with eight shots.

The Ocean City Nor’easters travel to the South Philadelphia Super Site for the final game of the season versus Philadelphia Lone Star FC on Sunday, July 11th, at 7 pm on Eleven Sports.
