The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (26-37) dropped their fourth game in a row Friday night at Trenton Thunder Ballpark against the Buffalo Bisons (37-24). Lehigh Valley starting pitcher David Parkinson (4.0 IP, 9 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 5 SO) remains winless this season (0-6, 6.71 ERA).
At the top of the first inning, with one out and runners on second and third, IronPigs center fielder Mickey Moniak’s sacrifice fly to left field put Lehigh Valley up 1-0. However, the Bisons responded in the bottom of the first inning with runners on the corners when shortstop Christian Colon’s double brought home a run that tied the game 1-1.
At the top of the fourth inning, with runners on second and third, IronPigs designated hitter Ruben Tejada hit a sacrifice fly to center field that scored a run to put the IronPigs back on top 2-1. Then, an RBI single by IronPigs third baseman Austin Listi extended Lehigh Valley’s lead, 3-1.
Then in the bottom of the fourth inning, with runners on the corners and two outs, Bisons left fielder Kevin Smith cleared the bases with a triple that tied the game again 3-3. The Bisons would take the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning on a solo home run by shortstop Christian Colon for a 4-3 lead. It was Colon’s tenth home run of the season. However, that would be it for IronPigs pitcher David Parkinson as Damon Jones relieved him.
The IronPigs were unable to generate any more runs. At the top of the ninth inning, Buffalo brought Hobie Harris to close the game. He got all three outs to end the game. The IronPigs lose to Buffalo 4-3, their fourth loss in a row.
The win went to Buffalo starting pitcher Zach Logue (5.0 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 SO), and the loss went to IronPigs starting pitcher David Parkinson. Hobie Harris (1.0 IP, 2 SO) earned his sixth save of the year.
Game five between the IronPigs and Bisons from Trenton Thunder Ballpark is today at 6:30 pm. Spencer Howard (1-0, 0.96 ERA) is on the mound for Lehigh Valley to counter Casey Lawrence (2-1, 7.40 ERA) for Buffalo.
