Rodolfo Duran’s three-run home run lifts IronPigs to a 5-3 win

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (33-41) defeated the Rochester Red Wings (30-42) Wednesday 5-3 at Frontier Field. David Parkinson (0-7, 6.63 ERA) was on the mound for Lehigh Valley, looking for his first win of the season against Rochester’s Ben Braymer (2-6, 6.75 ERA).

Lehigh Valley jumped out to a 1-0 lead at the top of the first inning on an RBI double by shortstop Nick Maton. It was Maton’s fifth double of the season.

At the top of the fourth inning, with runners on first and second base, IronPigs first baseman Darick Hall singled to right field that brought home a run 2-0. Then, IronPigs catcher Rodolfo Duran, making his IronPigs debut, hit a three-run home run out towards left field for a 5-0 lead. Duran was in Double-A Reading with a .182 batting average, five home runs, and nine RBIs. His OBP average is .217, and his slugging percentage is .373.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, with runners on the corners, Red Wings right fielder Daniel Palka hit an RBI single to right field that cut the IronPigs lead 5-1. Two batters later, Red Wings catcher Jakson Reetz’s sacrifice fly made it 5-2.

Cam Bedrosian was the new pitcher for the IronPigs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Bedrosian loaded the bases before walking Red Wings catcher Jakson Reetz to make it a two-run lead 5-3. Mauricio Llovera came in for Bedrosian to get the last out.

Mauricio Llovera returned in the bottom of the ninth inning to close the game. He got all three outs as the IronPigs defeated the Red Wings 5-3.

Lehigh Valley starting pitcher David Parkinson (5.1 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 4 SO) earned his first win. The loss went to Rochester’s Ben Braymer (3.0 IP, 5 H, 5 ER, 3 BB, 5 SO). IronPigs pitcher Mauricio Llovera (1.1 IP, 1 SO) earned his first save of the season.

Game three of the six-game series is today at 11:05 am, with Tyler Alexander (2-2, 5.29 ERA) on the mound for Lehigh Valley versus Matt Tomshaw (0-1, 22.09 ERA).
