Colts quarterback Carson Wentz to have foot surgery and miss 5-12 weeks

Indianapolis Colts quarterback will have foot surgery to repair a broken bone in his left foot and will miss five to twelve weeks of action. Wentz injured his foot during last Thursday’s practice. He initially rejected the idea of surgery but then changed his mind.

Colts head coach Frank Reich confirmed the news during his press conference. “Listen, it was a good process; Carson has the injury. We consult with our doctors here. Obviously, we got top guys in that field right here in our home base and in our home camp.” Reich added that Wentz’s injury was an old injury stemming back from high school.

In the meantime, Jacob Eason, a 2020 fourth-round pick from Georgia, will be starting at quarterback. The Colts other quarterbacks are recently signed former Cardinals quarterback Brett Hundley, former Prairie View A&M quarterback Jalen Morton, and Sam Ehlinger, a 2021 sixth-round pick from Texas.

If Wentz’s surgery is successful and heals as planned, Wentz could return to the field in October. Another fan base keeping an eye on this are the Philadelphia Eagles fans. Wentz was traded to the Colts by the Eagles on March 17th, 2021, for a 2021 third-round pick and a conditional 2022 second-round pick that can become a first-round pick if Wentz plays 75 percent of the Colts snaps this season.

Another name floating around the Colts is that they could pursue Nick Foles. Yes, that Nick Foles who took over for Wentz and led the Philadelphia Eagles to win Super Bowl XLII over the New England Patriots. Foles has been linked to trade rumors ever since the Bears drafted Justin Fields and signed Andy Dalton. So, if the Colts don’t feel comfortable with Eason and the other quarterbacks, they could pursue Foles.

The Indianapolis Colts will get a good look at Jacob Eason when they open the preseason against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, August 15th, at 1 pm on FOX.
