The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (36-41) won their fourth game in a row Wednesday night at Coca-Cola Park 7-1 over the Buffalo Bisons (46-31). On the mound for Lehigh Valley was Cristopher Sanchez (2-4, 4.46 ERA) against Buffalo’s Anthony Kay (0-2, 8.69 ERA).
Lehigh Valley designated hitter Darick Hall put the IronPigs on the board 2-0 after hitting a two-run double to left field in the bottom of the first inning.
In the bottom of the third inning, with a runner on second base, IronPigs first baseman Matt Vierling brought home another run with an RBI single to left field for a 3-0 lead.
With the bases loaded for the IronPigs in the bottom of the fourth inning, IronPigs right fielder Jorge Bonifacio cleared the bases with a three-run double to blow the game wide open 6-0.
Then, in the bottom of the seventh inning, with the bases loaded for Lehigh Valley. IronPigs center fielder Charlie Tilson’s ball bounced up in the air long enough to reach first base while bringing home another run for a 7-0 lead.
The Bisons would end the shutout at the top of the eighth inning when second baseman Otto Lopez singled to center field that scored a run 7-1.
At the top of the ninth inning, the IronPigs brought Cam Bedrosian in to close the game. He got all three outs as the IronPigs defeated the Bisons 7-1 to win their fourth game in a row.
Lehigh Valley starting pitcher Cristopher Sanchez finished the night pitching four innings, allowing one hit and six strikeouts. The win went to IronPigs reliever Jakob Hernandez (2.0 IP, 1 H, 4 SO), while the loss went to Buffalo’s Anthony Kay (3.2 IP, 6 H, 6 ER, 3 BB, 2 SO).
Game three of the six-game series continues today at 7:05 pm with Mark Appel (2-2, 5.32 ERA) on the mound for Lehigh Valley versus Buffalo’s Nick Allgeyer (3-2, 4.63 ERA).
