Former Philadelphia Phillies and Lehigh Valley IronPigs pitcher Spencer Howard debuted with the Texas Rangers Thursday afternoon at Globe Life Field.

Howard and pitchers Josh Gessner and Kevin Gowdy were traded to Texas for starting pitcher Kyle Gibson, closer Ian Kennedy, and minor league pitcher Hans Crouse on July 30th, 2021.

Howard pitched two scoreless innings, including striking out both Shohei Ohtani and Max Stassi. In the third inning, he gave up a home run to Angels right fielder Adam Eaton. Then, Howard threw a wild pitch with runners on second and third base, bringing another run home for the Angels 2-0. He would give up a sacrifice fly to Angels catcher Max Stassi for a 3-0 lead that would end his day.

Spencer Howard (2.1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 3 SO, 1 HR) threw 45 pitches in his debut and would suffer his third loss of the season as the Angels defeated the Rangers 5-0.

Howard’s next scheduled start is next Wednesday, August 11th, against the Seattle Mariners at 10:10 pm
