IronPigs two-game win streak snapped by RailRiders

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (39-45) two-game win streak was snapped Thursday night by the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 10-3 at PNC Field.

David Parkinson (1-7, 6.29 ERA) started for Lehigh Valley against Brian Keller (0-1, 3.12 ERA) of Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

With a runner on second base in the bottom of the first inning, RailRiders right fielder Ryan LaMarre hit a two-run home run that put the RailRiders up 2-0.

A sacrifice fly by RailRiders right fielder Trey Amburgey extended the lead 3-0 in the bottom of the second inning. At the top of the third inning, RailRiders right fielder Ryan LaMarre was ejected for arguing with an umpire, and Trey Amburgey moved to right field, while Brandon Wagner went to left field.

With runners on second and third base, a sacrifice fly by IronPigs third baseman T.J. Rivera cut the RailRiders lead 3-1 at the top of the third inning. Then, RailRiders pitcher Sean Boyle threw a wild pitch, and the IronPigs were down by one 3-2.

The RailRiders blew the game wide open in the bottom of the third inning. With runners on first and second base, RailRiders first baseman Max Burt singled to left field for a 4-2 lead. Then a single by RailRiders by shortstop Kyle Holder drove in two more runs 6-2.

Lehigh Valley brought in Jakob Hernandez to pitch. Hernandez gave up a two-run home run to RailRiders catcher Jason Lopez for an 8-2 lead.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, a solo home run by RailRiders left fielder Brandon Wagner made it 9-2. With a runner on first base, RailRiders designated hitter Socrates Brito tripled to right field for a 10-2 lead.

Lehigh Valley added a run at the top of the seventh inning on an RBI single by third baseman T.J. Rivera now had the Ironpigs trailing 10-3.

After the top of the eighth inning, rain began falling on the field. The game was called, and Lehigh Valley’s two-game win streak ended in a 10-3 loss to the RailRiders.

Lehigh Valley starting pitcher David Parkinson (2.0 IP, 9 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 1 BB, 3 SO, 1 HR) suffered his eighth loss of the season. The win went to RailRiders pitcher Sean Boyle (4.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 SO).

Game four of the six-game series continues today at 7:05 pm. David Paulino (3-3, 4.35 ERA) starts Lehigh Valley versus Luis Severino (0-0, 0.00 ERA) of Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Severino is making a rehab start for the Yankees.
