Lehigh Valley splits doubleheader with Rochester

After being rained out Wednesday night at Frontier Field, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (42-48) and the Rochester Red Wings (36-52) played a doubleheader. Each game is played to seven innings in a doubleheader. If the game is tied after seven innings, the game goes until there is a winner.

In game one, the starting pitchers were Lehigh Valley’s David Parkinson (1-8, 7.00 ERA) against Rochester’s Josh Rogers (5-3, 4.40 ERA).

At the top of the second inning, with a runner on second base, IronPigs second baseman C.J. Chatham doubled to right field that put the IronPigs up 1-0.

Lehigh Valley third baseman Freddy Galvis extended the IronPigs lead 2-0 with a solo home run to left field at the top of the third inning.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, with runners on first and second base, Red Wings shortstop Jecksson Flores tied the game 2-2 with a two-run double to left field. Then, Red Wings pitcher Josh Rogers put Rochester up 3-2 with an RBI single to right field.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, with a runner on second base, Red Wings third baseman Brandon Snyder doubled to right field, adding another run 4-2.

Then, in the bottom of the sixth inning, with the bases loaded, Red Wings catcher Keibert Ruiz doubled on a line drive to right field, scoring two runs for a 6-2 lead.

The Red Wings brought Ronald Pena in to close the game at the top of the seventh inning. After getting the first two outs, he gave up back-to-back singles to Arquimedes Gamboa and Freddy Galvis before getting the last out to end the game. The IronPigs lost game one to Rochester 6-2.

The win went to Red Wings pitcher Josh Rogers (5.0 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 5 SO, 1 HR), while the loss went to Lehigh Valley starting pitcher David Parkinson (4.0 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 4 SO). It was Parkinson’s ninth loss of the season.

In game two, Adam Leverett (1-0, 1.50 ERA) started for Lehigh Valley versus Rochester’s Sterling Sharp (4-2, 3.81 ERA).

In the bottom of the first inning, Rochester went up 2-0 on a two-run home run to left field by first baseman Brandon Snyder. However, Lehigh Valley would get a run back at the top of the second inning on a solo home run by first baseman Darick Hall.

In the bottom of the third inning, with runners on first and second base, Red Wings left fielder Nick Banks drove in a run with an RBI single to right field for a 3-1 lead.

At the top of the fourth inning, with the bases loaded, IronPigs catcher Tyler Heineman singled on a ground ball to first base that brought home a run 3-2. Then with the bases still loaded, Red Wings pitcher Nick Wells walked pinch hitter T.J. Rivera to tie the game 3-3.

At the top of the eighth inning, with a runner on third base, IronPigs left fielder Mickey Moniak’s sacrifice fly put Lehigh Valley up 4-3. In the bottom of the eighth inning, IronPigs pitcher Cam Bedrosian got the three outs as Lehigh Valley defeated Rochester 4-3.

Lehigh Valley pitcher Cam Bedrosian (2.0 IP, 1 H, 3 SO) earned his second win of the season. The loss went to Red Wings pitcher Aaron Barrett (2.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 2 SO).

Game four of the seven-game series continues today at 7:05 pm. Both teams will name their starters later.
