The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (43-51) ended the Rochester Red Wings (39-53) three-game win streak Sunday afternoon in a 6-1 win at Frontier Field.
David Paulino (3-3, 4.35) started for Lehigh Valley versus Rochester’s Tyler Eppler (2-8, 7.68 ERA).
Lehigh Valley left fielder Matt Vierling put the IronPigs up front 1-0 with a solo home run to left field. It was Vierling’s fifth home run of the season. Then, with runners on first and second base, IronPigs second baseman TJ Rivera crushed a three-run home run out to left field for a 4-0 lead. It was Rivera’s seventh home run of the season.
In the bottom of the second inning with a runner on second base, Red Wings center fielder Rafael Bautista doubled on a ground ball to left field. This scored the only run for Rochester 4-1.
At the top of the sixth inning, with the bases loaded, IronPigs second baseman TJ Rivera drove in two more runs with a two-run single to left field for a 6-1 lead. It was Rivera’s fifth RBI of the day.
Lehigh Valley starting pitcher David Paulino (5.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 2 SO) was replaced by Sam Coonrod in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Moving ahead to the bottom of the ninth inning, Cam Bedrosian was the new pitcher for Lehigh Valley. He got the last three outs of the game, and the IronPigs defeated the Red Wings 6-1.
The win went to IronPigs pitcher David Paulino, while the loss went to Rochester’s Tyler Eppler (4.0 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 SO, 2 HR).
The IronPigs will have off on Monday before returning to Coca-Cola Park to begin another series with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders on Tuesday at 7:05 pm.
