Week 4 of the CFL season wrapped up Sunday night with a West Division matchup between the Calgary Stampeders and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers at IG Field.

The first points of the game went to the Stampeders when kicker Rene Paredes booted a 35-yard field goal for a 3-0 lead with 6:23 left in the first quarter.

On the second series for the Blue Bombers, quarterback Zach Collaros threw a 50-yard pass to Rasheed Baily who was then tackled on the two-yard line. This set up a two-yard touchdown run by Andrew Harris. A missed extra point kept the Blue Bombers lead at 6-3 with 3:49 left in the first quarter. The Blue Bombers led 6-3 after the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Stampeders were able to get to the Blue Bombers’ 32-yard line before kicker Rene Paredes kicked a 39-yard field goal to tie the game 6-6 with 10:43 left.

With 7:26 left in the second quarter, the Blue Bombers’ defense forced a fumble after Mike Jones knocked the ball out of Josh Huff’s arm that was recovered by Adam Bighill. The Blue Bombers’ offense went two-and-out before kicker Marc Liegghio made a 50-yard field goal to put the Blue Bombers back up 9-6 with 6:07 left in the second quarter.

The Stampeders responded by marching down to the Blue Bombers’ 17-yard line. Then Stampeders running back Ka’Deem Carey rushed in for a 17-yard touchdown run to give the Stampeders a 13-9 lead with 3:26 left in the second quarter. The score remained 13-9 in favor of the Stampeders at halftime.

Early in the third quarter, both offenses went two-and-out. On the Blue Bombers second possession of the third quarter, quarterback Zach Collaros completed two passes and a one-yard run set up a 42-yard field goal for Marc Liegghio. He made the field goal which cut the Stampeders lead 13-12 with 7:59 left in the third quarter. Both teams were unable to gain an advantage as the end of the third quarter came with the Stampeders leading 13-12.

In the fourth quarter, the Blue Bombers marched down to the Stampeders’ 30-yard line before Marc Liegghio put the Blue Bombers in the lead 15-13 with 5:54 left.

Stampeders quarterback Jake Maier then led the Stampeders down to the Blue Bombers 25-yard line to set up Rene Paredes’s 33-yard field goal that put the Stampeders back up 16-15 with 1:52 left in the game.

On the Blue Bombers final possession of the game, they took their time getting to the Stampeders’ 28-yard line, forcing the Stampeders to burn timeouts to save some clock. Then blue Bombers kicker Marc Liegghio missed the field goal. However, a ten-yard time count violation on the Blue Bombers gave them another chance.

With forty-two seconds left, Marc Liegghio kicked a 45-yard field goal to put the Blue Bombers up 18-16. The Stampeders quickly sped up their plays and got down to the Blue Bombers’ 45-yard line to set up a game-winning field goal. But, unfortunately for Rene Paredes, he missed a 52-yard field goal, and the Blue Bombers defeated the Stampeders 18-16 to improve to 3-1 on the season. The Stampeders are now 1-3 on the season.

Stampeders quarterback Jake Maier finished the night 30/39 for 307-yards. Ka’Deem Carey led the team in rushing with eight carries for 66-yards and one touchdown. Josh Huff led the team in receiving with six receptions for 92-yards. The Stampeders’ defense did not record a sack or interception.

Blue Bombers quarterback Zach Collaros finished the night 16/25 for 243-yards. Andrew Harris led the team in rushing with 17 carries for 81-yards and one touchdown. Rasheed Bailey led the team in receiving with four receptions for 108-yards. The Blue Bombers recorded one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
