IronPigs split series with the Mets Sunday night

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (48-58) wrapped up a twelve-game homestand Sunday night against the Syracuse Mets (42-63).

Adonis Medina (3-5, 5.05 ERA) started for Lehigh Valley versus former IronPigs pitcher Jerad Eickhoff (7-1, 4.87 ERA).

In the bottom of the second inning, with runners on first and second base, IronPigs third baseman T.J. Rivera doubled on a sharp line drive to left field. This scored two runs to put the IronPigs up 2-0. Then, IronPigs catcher Logan Moore singled to center field that brought home another run 3-0.

At the top of the third inning, with a runner on second base, Mets second baseman Jose Peraza singled on a sharp line drive to left field that cut the IronPigs lead 3-1. However, the IronPigs got the run back in the bottom of the third inning. With a runner on second base, an RBI single by second baseman C.J. Chatham made it 4-1.

The Mets were not going away. At the top of the fourth inning, center fielder Khalil Lee hit a solo home run to center field, cutting the IronPigs lead 4-2.

In the bottom of the fourth inning with a runner on second base, IronPigs pitcher Adonis Medina singled to left field, scoring a run for a 5-2 lead. Two batters later, IronPigs shortstop Nick Maton cleaned the bases with a two-run home run out towards center field for a 7-2 lead.

Then, at the top of the fifth inning, the Mets made the game interesting. With a runner on first base for the Mets, right fielder Jose Martinez doubled to left field, bringing home a run 7-3. After giving up another hit, Adonis Medina was done for the night. He finished the night (5.1 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 3 BB, 3 SO), and Jeff Singer was the new pitcher for Lehigh Valley.

After striking out Mets center fielder Khalil Lee, Singer gave up a two-run double to Mets shortstop Wilfredo Tovar. The Mets were now within two 7-5. However, Jeff Singer got Mets catcher David Rodriguez to strikeout which ended the inning.

Moving ahead to the bottom of the eighth inning, the new pitcher for the Mets was Tom Hackimer. First, he walked two IronPigs batters before left fielder Adam Haseley moved them up to second and third base with a ground out. Then, Hackimer threw a wild pitch, scoring a run for the IronPigs 8-5. Then, after loading the bases, Hackimer threw a wild pitch again, and the IronPigs were up 9-5.

At the top of the ninth inning, Mets pinch hitter Jose Colina hit a solo home run to right field, trailing 9-6. Next, IronPigs pitcher Mauricio Llovera got the last three outs to end the game, and the IronPigs split the series with the Mets in a 9-6 win.

The win went to IronPigs starter Adonis Medina, while the loss went to Mets starter Jerad Eickhoff (3.2 IP, 7 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 2 BB, 5 SO, 1 HR). Mauricio Llovera (3.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 SO, 1 HR) earned his fifth save of the year with the IronPigs.

The IronPigs will have Monday off before heading to Worcester, MA, to take on the Red Sox beginning Tuesday, at 6:35 pm.
