The final game of the trifecta concluded Saturday night at BC Place between the Ottawa Redblacks and the BC Lions. The Lions were off last week while the Redblacks were looking to end a three-game losing streak.
Lions quarterback Mike Reilly and the offense made a statement in the first quarter. Reilly threw three touchdowns in the first quarter, one to Keon Hatcher for eight yards, then to Jevon Cottoy for 38-yards, and Bryan Burnham for 39-yards.
The Redblacks did score a touchdown when Dominique Davis threw a 33-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Davis. The Lions led 21-7 at the end of the first quarter.
The Redblacks tried to add a field goal in the second quarter, but Lewis Ward missed a 48-yarder. Then BC Lions returner Lucky Whitehead returned the ball from the endzone and went 119-yards for the touchdown for a 28-7 lead.
Redblacks kicker Lewis Ward made two straight field goals, one was for 41-yards, and the other went 51-yards to cut the Lions lead 28-13 with 2:48 left in the second quarter. When the Redblacks got the ball with 38 seconds left, quarterback Dominique Davis’s pass was intercepted by Lions linebacker Boseko Lokombo and returned for a 20-yard touchdown for a 35-13 lead at halftime.
The Redblacks’ defense did make some progress stopping the Lions offense. The only points scored in the third quarter came with 6:15 left when Mike Reilly completed a 15-yard touchdown pass to Bryan Burnham for the second time for a 42-13 lead.
In the fourth quarter, BC Lions kicker Jimmy Camacho made a 14-yard field goal for a 45-13 lead with 3:03 left in the game. The Redblacks tried to get into the endzone before time expired, but the Lions defense stopped them at the one-yard line to end the game. The Lions crushed the Redblacks 45-13. The Redblacks losing streak has reached four games heading into the bye week.
BC Lions quarterback Mike Reilly finished the night 22/26 for 319-yards, four touchdowns, and one interception. Shaquille Cooper led the team in rushing with nine carries for 41-yards. Lucky Whitehead led the team in receiving with three receptions for 82-yards, and the defense recorded three sacks, one interception, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery.
For the Redblacks, quarterback Dominique Davis went 30/51 for 333-yards, one touchdown, one interception, and twenty yards rushing. Timothy Flanders led in rushing with 15 carries for 40-yards. Anthony Coombs led in receiving with eight receptions for 82-yards, and the defense recorded two sacks, one interception, and two forced fumbles.
