Thirty minutes after the Wednesday makeup game was complete. The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (52-65) took on the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (67-49). This game was played in seven innings.
Brady Lail (1-0, 7.22 ERA) started for Lehigh Valley against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre’s Brody Koerner (3-4, 3.50 ERA).
The game was scoreless in the first six innings. IronPigs starter Brady Lail was taken out at the top of the fourth inning for Mark Appel. Brady Lail finished the game with 36 pitches (3.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 SO).
At the top of the sixth inning, IronPigs pitcher Mark Appel loaded the bases, leading to another pitching change. Tyler Alexander was the new IronPigs pitcher. With two outs and the bases loaded for the RailRiders, pinch hitter Trey Amburgey cleared the bases with a three-run double on a sharp ground ball to left field, giving the RailRiders a 3-0 lead.
Then, RailRiders second baseman Matt Pita drove Amburgey home with an RBI single to left field for a 4-0 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, with a runner on first base, IronPigs designated hitter Jorge Bonifacio doubled on a sharp ground ball to left field, scoring Alec Bohm that cut the RailRiders lead 4-1.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Nick Nelson pitched for the RailRiders. IronPigs center field Adam Haseley and second baseman Luke William hit back-to-back singles with two outs. Nick Nelson got third baseman Alec Bohm to ground out that ended the game.
The IronPigs lose 4-1 to the RailRiders. The season series is now 20-15 for the RailRiders. With the win, the RailRiders clinched the 2021 IronRail Rivalry Series.
The win went to RailRiders pitcher Domingo Germán (2.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 SO). IronPigs pitcher Mark Appel (2.1 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 1 SO) suffered his fifth loss of the season. RailRiders pitcher Nick Nelson (1.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER) earned his first save of the season.
These two teams will play each other for the final time of the season today at 1:35 pm. Both teams will announce their pitcher later.
