IronPigs pitcher Colton Eastman pitches shutout in win

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (53-66) started its final road series of the season Wednesday night at Sahlen Field against the Buffalo Bisons (71-47).

Colton Eastman (0-1, 7.56 ERA) started for the IronPigs versus Buffalo’s Anthony Kay (0-3, 9.64 ERA). Bryson Stott made his IronPigs debut at shortstop.

At the top of the first inning with two outs, IronPigs center fielder Mickey Moniak crushed a solo home run out towards right field for a 1-0 lead.

IronPigs shortstop Bryson Stott was walked to start the second inning. After IronPigs catcher Rafael Marchan moved Stott to third base, IronPigs first baseman Darick Hall’s sacrifice fly to left field scored Stott for a 2-0 lead.

At the top of the sixth inning, IronPigs center fielder Mickey Moniak tripled to left field. After shortstop Bryson Stott walked for the second time, leaving runners on the corners. IronPigs catcher Rafael Marchan grounded into a forceout, scoring Moniak for a 3-0 lead.

Meanwhile, Colton Eastman was mowing down the Bison’s batters. Eastman threw 69 pitches (6.0 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 SO).

The rain started to fall at the top of the seven-inning and picked up after the top of the seventh inning ended. After a while, the game was called due to rain, and the IronPigs shut out the Bisons 3-0.

The win went to IronPigs starter Colton Eastman, his first of the year. The loss went to Bisons pitcher Anthony Kay (1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 0 SO, 1 HR). It was Kay’s fourth loss of the season.

Game two of the five-game series continues today at 6:05 pm. Cristopher Sanchez (5-6, 4.68 ERA) starts for the IronPigs against Buffalo’s Nick Allgeyer (4-5, 5.45 ERA).
