The Montreal Alouettes defeated the Ottawa Redblacks 20-16 on Canada’s Thanksgiving Day. They scored a late touchdown to take the lead by former Dallas Renegades running back Cameron Artis-Payne, who played for the injured William Stanback.

The big story coming out of this game was Alouettes quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. injured his left arm on a running play when the Alouettes were trailing 16-13 late in the fourth quarter. Adams had an arm sling on his left arm, and backup Matthew Shiltz finished the game. He went 3/3 for 36-yards and two carries for 18-yards.

Before the injury, Vernon Adams Jr. went 12/21 for 157-yards, one touchdown, one interception, and six carries for 41-yards. In the first quarter, Adams’s touchdown pass came when he threw a five-yard touchdown pass to Jake Wieneke for a 7-0 lead with 11:52 left.

Alouettes running back Cameron Artis-Payne made his CFL debut and made a huge impact. Payne had 21 carries for 122-yards and a game-winning seven-yard touchdown run. Kicker David Cote made two field goals, with his longest being 45-yards.

The Alouettes defense sacked Redblacks quarterback Caleb Evans five times, two of them by Jamal Davis, and one interception.

For the Redblacks, quarterback Caleb Evans was 13/23 for 125-yards, one interception, and five carries for 64-yards. The Redblacks points came from Lewis Ward’s four field goals, with his longest being 35-yards and two safeties.

Redblacks running back De’Lance Turner had ten carries for 71-yards, wide receiver Nathaniel Behar had two catches for 43-yards, and the defense recorded six sacks, two of them by Kene Onyeka and one interception.

Next week, these two teams will have a rematch at TD Place on Saturday, October 16th, at 4 pm on ESPN+.
