On Canada’s Thanksgiving Day, the Toronto Argonauts won a close game 24-23 over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Argo’s kicker Boris Bede kicked a game-winning 51-yard field goal for Argo’s sixth win of the season. Bede made three field goals, with his longest being 51-yards.
Argo’s quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson went 29/42 for 388-yards, two touchdowns, one interception, and one carry for 12-yards. Bethel-Thompson’s touchdowns came in the fourth quarter. First, he threw a nine-yard touchdown pass to Chandler Worthy.
The second touchdown pass went to DaVaris Daniels for 22-yards. Daniels spun around to catch the ball and got both feet inbounds for the touchdown. That put the Argo’s in the lead 22-21 with 4:24 left in the game.
The Argo’s lacked a running game. Running back, A.J. Ouellette had three carries for 14-yards. Kurleigh Gittens Jr. led the receivers with seven catches for 105-yards. Wide receiver Ricky Collins Jr. was not far behind with six catches for 88-yards. The Argo’s defense got to Tiger-Cats quarterback Jeremiah Masoli two times.
Tiger-Cats quarterback Jeremiah Masoli went 24/33 for 361-yards, two touchdowns, and four carries for 23-yards. His first touchdown was the game’s first points when he threw to Sean Thomas-Erlington on a screen pass that went for 24-yards for a 7-0 lead with 8:19 left in the first quarter. His second touchdown was in the fourth quarter when he found Jaelon Acklin splitting the Argo’s defenders for a 45-yard touchdown.
Tiger-Cats running back Maleek Irons led the team in rushing with seven carries for 59-yards, and wide receiver Jaelon Acklin led the receivers with six catches for 96-yards and one touchdown. Kicker Taylor Bertolet was 3/3 on field goals, with his longest being 28-yards. The defense sacked Bethel-Thompson three times and intercepted him once.
Next week, the Ottawa Redblacks will host the Montreal Alouettes on Saturday, October 16th, at 4 pm on ESPN+. The Toronto Argonauts are on a bye week.
