On Monday, the Edmonton Elks made three roster moves. First, they added Chris Casher to the practice squad along with signing LS Martin Bedard. To make room, the Elks released DL Andrew Ankrah.
The Montreal Alouettes drafted Martin Bedard in the second round of the 2009 CFL Draft out of UConn. He started in three of the 20 played for the UConn Huskies and has three catches for 42-yards.
Bedard spent his eleven-year CFL career with the Alouettes and won two Grey Cup Championships in 2009 and 2010. Earlier this year, Bedard retired from football in July.
Chris Casher was signed by the Elks on September 28th and completed his COVID quarantine.
DL Andrew Ankrah was in his first season with the Elks. He played in one game for the Elks in Week 2 against the Alouettes and had one special teams tackle.
The 24-year-old from Gaithersburg, Maryland, played college football at James Madison for four years. He played in 53 games, with 177 tackles, 26 sacks, four passes defended, eight forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries.
Ankrah went undrafted in the 2018 NFL Draft. In 2019, he played for the Orlando Apollos of the Alliance of American Football. He played in seven games with sixteen tackles and three sacks. After the league folded, he had a tryout for the Washington Redskins and was waived during training camp.
In 2020, he played for the St. Louis Battlehawks of the XFL. He played in five games and had 14 tackles and three sacks before the league shut down due to COVID-19.
The Edmonton Elks host the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Friday, October 15th, at 9 pm on ESPN+.
