Stampeders silence the Lions for their third straight win

The Calgary Stampeders went into BC Place Saturday night and cruised to a 39-10 win over the BC Lions for their third consecutive win.

Stampeders quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell went 22/32 for 270 yards, one touchdown, and two carries for three yards. His touchdown pass came in the first quarter on a 16-yard pass to Luther Hakunavanhu that put the Stampeders up 7-6 with 1:28 left. Luther Hakunavanhu had three catches for 56 yards and one touchdown.

Stampeders running back Ka’Deem Carey had twelve carries for 67 yards, and wide receiver Richard Sindani led the receivers with six catches for 60 yards. Kicker Rene Paredes was a perfect 6/6, with his longest field goal being 45-yards.

The rest of the Stampeders points were scored on defense and special teams. At the start of the third quarter, Roc Thomas returned a kickoff for a 101-yard touchdown that extended the Stampeders lead 23-6 with 14:41 left.

In the fourth quarter, Lions quarterback Mike Reilly’s pass to Shaq Johnson was intercepted by Jonathan Moxley and returned for a 53-yard touchdown for a 39-10 lead with 4:59 left. The Stampeders defense sacked Mike Reilly three times and intercepted him twice.

BC Lions quarterback Mike Reilly went 13/25 for 145 yards, two interceptions, and two carries for two yards. Lions running back James Butler carried the ball six times for 29 yards.

The only touchdown scored by the Lions was a one-yard run by backup quarterback Nathan Rourke. Rourke replaced Reilly late in the fourth quarter and went 11/17 for 115 yards, and three carries for 21 yards and one touchdown.

BC Lions wide receiver Bryan Burnham led the receivers with seven catches for 93 yards. Kicker Jimmy Camacho was one-for-two, with his longest field goal being 28-yards.

The Lions’ defense did not record a sack or interception. They had one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

Next week, the Lions head to IG Field against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Saturday, October 23rd, at 7 pm on ESPN+. The Calgary Stampeders head back home to face the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Saturday, October 23rd, at 9:45 pm on ESPN+.
