On Monday, the BC Lions announced the signings of QB Kevin Thomas and LB Shakir Soto. Both players completed their COVID protocols and will report to practice on Tuesday.

Kevin Thomas is a 26-year-old from Auburn, Washington. He started his collegiate career at UNLV. He never played for UNLV in two seasons and transferred to Sacramento State. At Sacramento State, he played in 27 games with 441 completions for 6,424 yards, 52 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.

After Sacramento State, Thomas transferred again to the University of Washington. He did not see any game action and elected to forgo his remaining eligibility. In all, he spent seven years in college. Later, he tried out for the Carolina Panthers.

Thomas does have an injury history. In 2015, he tore a ligament in his elbow that forced him out that season. In 2018 at Sacramento State, he played seven games before injuring his back and missing the rest of the season.

Shakir Soto is a 27-year-old from Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. He played for four years at the University of Pittsburgh. Soto played in 52 games with 120 tackles, 7.5 sacks, one pass defended, and one special team’s block.

After college, he had stints with the Raiders, Cowboys, Seahawks, and Broncos from 2017-19. In 2019, Soto played for the San Diego Fleet of the AAF and played all eight games with 21 tackles and four sacks before the league folded.

The BC Lions head to IG Field against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers this Saturday, October 23rd, at 7 pm on ESPN+.
