For the final of the 2021 season, the Saskatchewan Roughriders met the Calgary Stampeders at McMahan Stadium Saturday night. The Stampeders were looking for the season sweep, and the winner took sole possession of second place.
The Stampeders were riding a four-game winning streak; two of those came against the Roughriders. The Roughriders had one more shot at beating the Stampeders.
The Roughriders’ defense made sure of it and came away with the 20-17 win. The defense sacked Bo Levi Mitchell four times and intercepted him three times, twice in the third quarter by Damon Webb and Jeremy Clark.
Saskatchewan Roughriders quarterback Cody Fajardo went 21/26 for 222-yards, one touchdown, one interception, and six carries for 18-yards. Fajardo’s first touchdown happened in the third quarter from the pocket to find Brayden Lenius for 13-yards that put the Roughriders in the lead 13-10 with 7:13 left.
In the fourth quarter, Fajardo scrambled out of the pocket to find Kyran Moore for a three-yard touchdown pass, expanding their lead to 20-10 with 13:48 left. Wide receiver Kyran Moore led the receivers with six catches for 64-yards and one touchdown.
Roughriders running back William Powell carried the ball nine times for 43-yards. Kicker Brett Lauther was 2/4, with his longest field goal being 52-yards.
Calgary Stampeders Quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell went 21/31 for 311-yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions. Mitchell’s only touchdown came with under a minute left in the fourth quarter, finding Richard Sindani for four yards that cut the Roughriders lead to three 20-17. Running back, Ka’Deem Carey scored the other touchdown in the second quarter when he stretched out for a one-yard touchdown run that put the Stampeders up 10-3 with 3:22 left.
Calgary Stampeders wide receiver Markeith Ambles led the Stampeders in receiving with four catches for 73-yards. Kicker Rene Paredes made one field goal that went 12-yards. The Stampeders defense sacked Cody Fajardo four times, twice by Folarin Orimolade, along with one interception and one fumble recovery.
Next week, the Calgary Stampeders head to TD Place against the Ottawa Redblacks on Friday, October 29th, at 7 pm on ESPN+. Finally, the Saskatchewan Roughriders visit Percival Molson Memorial Stadium on Saturday, October 30th, against the Montreal Alouettes at 7 pm on ESPN+.
