On Thursday, the Saskatchewan Roughriders signed linebackers Nakas Onyeka. The 27-year-old from Brampton, Ontario, played two games with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers this year.
Nakas Onyeka played college football at Wilfred Laurier University for four years and made 194 tackles, nine sacks, seven forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, and one interception. He was part of the 2016 OUA championship team.
In 2016, he was named CIS Men’s Football First Team All-Canadian, OUA Men’s Football First Team All-Star, and OUA Men’s Football Presidents Award. In 2015, he was named to the OUA Men’s Football Second Team All-Star.
After college, he was drafted by the Toronto Argonauts in the fifth round of the 2017 CFL Draft. He played 36 games in three seasons with the Argonauts, tallying 14 tackles, 30 special teams tackles, two sacks, and one forced fumble.
He signed with the Roughriders in 2020, but there was no CFL season due to COVID. He was released in July 2021 before signing with the Blue Bombers. The Blue Bombers released him on October 4th.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders play the Montreal Alouettes on Saturday, October 30th, at 7 pm on ESPN+.
