On Monday, the Calgary Stampeders brought back a familiar face by signing WR Reggie Begelton to a one-year contract.
The 28-year-old from Beaumont, Texas, played with the Stampeders for three seasons (2017-19). Before turning pro, he played 46 games in five seasons (2011-15) at Lamar University. He had 227 catches for 2,435 yards and 20 touchdowns.
Begelton was named first-team all-Southland Conference in 2015 and a second-team selection in both 2013 and 2014. In 2013, he set a school single-season record with 82 receptions and a single-game record with 18 catches in a victory over Stephen F. Austin.
After college, he went undrafted in the 2016 NFL Draft. In 2017, he signed with the Calgary Stampeders. He was cut by the Stampeders during training camp but was brought back a short time later. During the 2017 season, he played in nine games with 22 catches for 304-yards and one touchdown.
In 2018, he played in seven games with 25 catches for 488 yards and one touchdown as the Stampeders won the Grey Cup over the Ottawa Redblacks 27-16.
In 2019, he played 17 games with 149 catches for 1,443 yards, ten touchdowns, and four carries for 38-yards and one touchdown. He was selected as a CFL All-Star and West All-Star in 2019.
After the season, Begelton left for the NFL and tried out for both the Raiders and Falcons before signing with the Green Bay Packers. He made his debut on October 5th against the Atlanta Falcons. He was cut by the Packers but returned to their practice squad. Begelton was among the final cuts in training camp in 2021.
The Calgary Stampeders are on a bye this week. Their next game will be on Friday, November 12th, against the BC Lions at 10:30 pm on ESPN+.
