The Ottawa Redblacks announced on Tuesday that DeVonte Dedmon had signed a one-year contract extension.
Redblacks Interim General Manager Jeremy Snyder said keeping Dedmon was an easy decision. “We’re excited to keep DeVonte in red and black for next season. DeVonte’s skill set is special and has the reputation of altering the game when he is on the field. He is a true threat with the ball in his hands to score at any time. This is the first step of many to build for a better 2022.”
The 25-year-old from Williamsburg, Virginia, is in his second year with the Redblacks. Before turning pro, he played 44 games in five seasons at William & Mary. He caught 152 passes for 2,037 yards, 20 touchdowns, 41 carries for 240-yards, and one touchdown.
On kickoffs, Dedmon had 55 returns for 1,364 yards and one touchdown, and on punt returns had 19 touches for 184-yards and one touchdown.
After college, Dedmon went undrafted in the 2019 NFL Draft. However, shortly after the draft, he signed with the Ottawa Redblacks.
In two seasons with the Redblacks, he has played 14 games with 14 catches for 156 yards, nine carries for 65-yards, and one touchdown. On special teams, he’s had 57 kickoff returns for 1,553 yards and one touchdown, and 63 punt returns for 976-yards, and three touchdowns.
On October 16th, Dedmon suffered a leg injury on the kickoff late in the first half against the Montreal Alouettes. Before the injury, he had 69-yard, and 49-yard punt returns.
