The Ottawa Redblacks continued to lock up talent on Thursday by re-signing Lewis Ward to a contract extension. In the last two days, the Redblacks re-signed Devonte Dedmon and Richie Leone.
The 29-year-old from Kingston, Ontario, is in his third season with the Redblacks. Before turning pro, he played 41 games in five seasons at the University of Ottawa. He made 89 field goals (79%), with his longest field goal being 51-yards, and punted the ball 111 times for 4,233 yards.
Ward went undrafted in the 2017 CFL Draft and returned to the University of Ottawa for his fifth season. In January of 2018, he signed with the Redblacks and won the starting job. In three seasons with the Redblacks, he has made 121 of 132 field goals (91.7%), with his longest being 56-yards.
Redblacks Interim General Manager Jeremy Snyder on resigning Ward said, “Lewis Ward exemplifies what it means to be a REDBLACK. He works tirelessly at his craft and performs when called upon. We are excited to have Lewis in the fold for the 2022 season.”
The Ottawa Redblacks host the Toronto Argonauts on Saturday, November 6th, at 4 pm on ESPN+.
