The Winnipeg Blue Bombers continued their winning ways Saturday night at IG Field in a 31-21 win over the Montreal Alouettes. It was the Blue Bombers’ ninth straight win.
Winnipeg Blue Bombers quarterback Zach Collaros went 21/33 for 280-yards and two touchdowns. His first touchdown pass happened in the first quarter on a cross-motion passing to Nic Demski for a ten-yard touchdown that put the Blue Bombers in the lead 7-0 with 8:51 left.
Collaros’s second touchdown came in the third quarter from the pocket, finding a wide-open Drew Wolitarsky for a 24-yard touchdown that tied the game 21-21 with 5:18 left. The Blue Bombers’ final touchdown came in the fourth quarter on a two-yard run by backup quarterback Sean McGuire for a 28-21 lead.
Blue Bombers running back Johnny Augustine led in rushing with seven carries for 46-yards, wide receiver Kenny Lawler had seven catches for 111-yards, and kicker Sergio Castillo was three-for-four with his longest field goal at 47-yards. The defense recorded four sacks, two of them by Jake Thomas, along with two interceptions.
Montreal Alouettes quarterback Trevor Harris went 14/25 for 177-yards, two touchdowns, two interceptions, and one carry for five yards. Harris’s touchdown happened in the second and third quarters. In the second quarter from the pocket, Harris threw a six-yard touchdown pass to Reggie White Jr., his first career touchdown that put the Alouettes up 13-11 with 6:03 left.
In the third quarter, Harris from the pocket found a wide-open Jake Wieneke for a seven-yard touchdown that put the Alouettes up 21-14 with 12:56 left. Wieneke finished the day with four catches for 60-yards and one touchdown.
Alouettes running back William Stanback had a big game with 16 carries for 106-yards, and wide receiver Quan Bray led in receiving with four catches for 62-yards.
The defense had one sack, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. In the first quarter, the Alouettes’ defense knocked the ball out of Blue Bombers running back Brady Oliveira and returned it for a 19-yard touchdown that tied the game 7-7 with 6:47 left.
