The Montreal Alouettes snapped the Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ nine-game winning streak Saturday afternoon in a 28-14 win.
The Blue Bombers rested several starters, including quarterback Zach Collaros. Backup quarterback Sean McGuire made his first career start.
Montreal Alouettes quarterback Trevor Harris was 18/25 for 144 yards and three touchdowns. He threw two touchdowns in the first half and one in the fourth quarter.
In the first quarter, Trevor Harris scrambled out of the pocket and threw the ball where only Eugene Lewis could get it as he reached out to catch the ball, dragging two feet inbounds for a 13-yard touchdown. The Alouettes took a 7-6 lead with 2:16 left.
The two would connect again in the second quarter. Trevor Harris scrambled out of the pocket and threw to Eugene Lewis on a sliding catch for a ten-yard touchdown for a 14-7 lead with 4:20 left. Lewis led the receivers with six catches for 51 yards and two touchdowns.
In the fourth quarter, the Alouettes went with a trick play. Trevor Harris threw to Eugene Lewis, and then Lewis threw to Quan Bray for a 35-yard catch. That play set up Harris throwing an eight-yard touchdown to Reggie White Jr. for a 24-7 lead with 12:08 left.
Running back, William Stanback led the Alouettes in rushing with 18 carries for 65 yards, and kicker David Cote was 2/2 in field goals with his longest for 28 yards. The defense recorded four interceptions, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. The Alouettes special steams recovered a loose ball after Shaquille Cooper missed the catch.
For the Blue Bombers, quarterback Sean McGuire was 11/26 for 149 yards for one touchdown, four interceptions, and two carries for 26 yards. McGuire’s only touchdown came in the fourth quarter from the pocket, finding Darvin Adams for a 30-yard touchdown that cut the Alouettes lead 24-14 with 10:44 left.
Running back, Brady Oliveira led in rushing with seven carries for 27-yards and one touchdown. His touchdown happened in the first quarter on a four-yard run that put the Blue Bombers up 7-0 with 13:22 left.
Wide receiver Kenny Lawler led the receivers with three catches for 58 yards. The defense recorded three sacks, two of them by Jonathan Kongbo, and one forced fumble. The Blue Bombers’ special teams recovered a fumble on the opening kickoff when Adarius Pickett lost control of the ball while running.
Next week, the Montreal Alouettes wrap up the season on Friday, November 19th, against the Ottawa Redblacks at 7:30 pm on ESPN+. Meanwhile, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers will head to Calgary to close out the season against the Stampeders on Saturday, November 20th, at 7 pm on ESPN+.
