On Tuesday, the Ottawa Redblacks locked up DL Nigel Romick, RB Brendan Gillanders, and DB Justin Howell to contract extensions.
Nigel Romick is a 30-year-old from Thunder Bay, Ontario. He has spent his entire seven-year career with the Redblacks after being drafted by them in the third round of the 2014 CFL Draft out of St. Mary’s University. Romick has played 90 games with 14 tackles, 91 special team tackles, and one sack. He was part of the Redblacks 2016 Grey Cup championship team.
Brendan Gillanders is a 30-year-old from Ottawa, Ontario, who played college football at the University of Ottawa. Earlier in his career, he suffered a broken leg and a dislocated foot that kept him from being drafted in the 2013 CFL Draft.
Once healthy, Gillanders signed with the Toronto Argonauts. He played two seasons with the Argo’s before signing with the Ottawa Redblacks in 2016, helping them win the Grey Cup. Gillanders has played in 100 games with 61 carries for 282 yards, and 38 catches for 338-yards.
Justin Howell is a 27-year-old from Bradford, Ontario, and played college football at Carleton University. The Redblacks selected him in the seventh round of the 2018 CFL Draft. Howell has spent three-year seasons with the Redblacks, playing in 39 games with 41 tackles, 25 special team tackles, and one sack.
The Ottawa Redblacks close out the 2021 season on the road against the Montreal Alouettes on Friday, November 19th, at 7:30 pm on ESPN+.
