On Tuesday night, the Edmonton Elks snapped the Toronto Argonaut’s six-game home winning streak in a 13-7 win at BMO Field. This game was a makeup game from August 26th.
The Argonauts were undefeated at home coming into this game. With first place locked in, the Argonauts rested their starters. Meanwhile, the Elks were looking to finish the season on a strong note heading into next year.
In the first two minutes of the game, both Taylor Cornelius and Antonio Pipkin threw interceptions.
Edmonton Elks quarterback Taylor Cornelius was 15/32 for 160-yards, three interceptions, two carries for 32-yards, and one touchdown. Cornelius’s rushing touchdown happened in the first quarter when he scrambled out of the pocket and ran for an 18-yard touchdown that put them in the lead 7-6 with 9:20 left.
Running back, James Wilder led the Elks in rushing with nine carries for 56-yards, Derel Walker led the receivers with four catches for 63-yards, and kicker Sean Whyte was 2/2 in field goals with his longest field goal for 35-yards. The defense recorded five sacks, two of them by Thomas Costigan, two interceptions by Trumaine Washington, and one forced fumble.
Toronto Argonauts quarterback Antonio Pipkin went 10/22 for 111-yards, one interception, and nine carries for 78-yards and one touchdown. Pipkin’s touchdown happened in the first quarter when he ran for a two-yard touchdown. The Argo’s went up 6-0 after missing the extra point with 11:50 left.
Pipkin was replaced in the fourth quarter by Cole McDonald. He went 4/8 for 45-yards and one interception.
Running back, Cameron Scarlett carried the ball ten times for 57-yards, Josh Huff led the receivers with six catches for 67-yards, and the defense recorded one sack and three interceptions. The Argonauts finish the regular season at 9-5, while the Elks now have three wins.
The Edmonton Elks will wrap up the season Friday night at BC Place against the Lions at 10:30 pm on ESPN+. The Argonaut’s next game won’t be until the Eastern Final on December 5th.
