For the second consecutive season, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers are going to the Grey Cup in a hard-fought victory over the Saskatchewan Roughriders 21-17 at BMO Field.
Winnipeg Blue Bombers quarterback Zach Collaros went 17/21 for 229 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions. The Blue Bombers turned over the ball twice in the first two possessions of the first quarter.
Zach Collaros only touchdown pass happened in the first quarter when he threw the ball up the middle to Rasheed Bailey with a second effort and scored an 11-yard touchdown that tied the game 7-7 with 3:39 left. Rasheed Bailey led the receivers with three catches for 56 yards, one touchdown, and one carry for eight yards.
Running back Andrew Harris led the Blue Bombers rushers with 23 carries for 136 yards, one touchdown, and one catch for nine yards. Andrew Harris’s touchdown happened in the third quarter when he ran up the middle for three yards that put the Blue Bombers in the lead 14-10 with 1:21 left. The defense recorded five sacks, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery.
Saskatchewan Roughriders quarterback Cody Fajardo went 19/27 for 265 yards, one touchdown, and six carries for 21 yards. Fajardo’s touchdown happened in the third quarter when he threw a 65-yard touchdown pass to Duke Williams that put the Roughriders back in the lead 17-14 as time expired. Duke Williams led the Roughriders receivers with four catches for 108 yards and one touchdown.
Running back William Powell led in rushing with 11 carries for 32 yards, one touchdown, and three catches for 47 yards. Powell’s touchdown happened in the first quarter on a one-yard run that put the Roughriders up 7-0 with 8:14 left.
Kicker Brett Lauther was 1 for 2 in field goals with his longest for 16-yards. The defense recorded one sack, three interceptions, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries.
The Blue Bombers will meet the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the 108th Grey Cup next Sunday, December 12th, at 6 pm on ESPN2.
